Three days later, He came to life again from the dead to assure us that our sins were fully paid for. We believe in the existence of Satan, that he is a fallen angel and an avowed enemy of God and God’s people. He actively seeks to seduce unbelieving souls to Hell. He also hinders Christians from living holy lives, as well as thwarts their efforts to extend God’s Kingdom. As the God-Man, the Lord Jesus Christ’s death on the Cross was sufficient for all mankind but efficacious or effective only for those who believe. We believe in the sovereignty of God in man’s salvation.
It is God Who predestinates and chooses us to believe in Him and be His children. Salvation is totally by God’s grace. Man’s good works do not merit salvation in any way. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour” (Titus 3:5-6).
We believe that man is sinful and depraved, unable to do anything good to merit salvation. Indeed, all men are like sheep which “have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD [God] hath laid on Him [the Lord Jesus Christ] the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6). We believe that salvation is only by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in Him alone. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
The God-appointed and God-given Mediator is our Lord Jesus Christ. “For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). We believe that all men are lost spiritually, needing to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour, to be made right with God.
